135th HPM BIRTHDAY ANNIVERSARY. Many stations will be active on the air to help celebrate the 135th birthday anniversary of the League's co-founder and first president Hiram Percy Maxim, W1AW, who was born September 2, 1869. Look for ARRL Life members and League's elected and appointed volunteers and officials to append /135 to their callsigns. The HPM/135 event begins at 0000z on Thursday, September 2nd, and concludes at 2400z on Sunday, September 12th. To find out if you are eligible to sign /135, please see September's QST (page 40) or visit the following Web page for details at: http://www.arrl.org/qst/2004/09/field-positions-135.html The Maxim Memorial Station W1AW will be on the air for the 135th birthday anniversary event. While W1AW has been appending "/90" to its callsign to mark the ARRL's 90th anniversary, it will go with the /135 identifier during the birthday celebration period. A certificate is available by working at least 25 HPM/135 stations and submitting a log extract including date, time, band, callsign worked and exchange for each /135 contact. This certificate is endorsable in increments of 25 contacts up to a maximum of 100. Details are also available on the above mentioned Web site and QST.
